Got to have a sip of this week's most popular thirst quencher? Then head for the new RanKing and RanQueen shop inside Shibuya station. The promotional hype stencilled on the wall outside explains: "What's up! What's new! For a selling channel between goods! For a new module of business!" Inside is an amazing selection of foods, drinks, sweets, CDs, DVDs, game software, personal hygiene items, perfumes, stationary, magazines, etc., each ranked one to five according to popularity. Of course, everything is for sale with prices slightly cheaper than in other shops. The number one drink, Water Salad, is 135 yen. The number one cup noodle, Cup Noodle, is 143 yen. A cute, unranked product is the tiny plastic owl that shouts, "Kora! Chikan! Yamero!" (Hey! Molester! Stop it!)
In a city obsessed with the newest and most popular "anything and everything," this shop is already a hit. More shops will be opening around town soon.
