Ginza Winax: Ginza
If the names Dr. Burklin-Wolf, Helmut Christ, Franz Keller, Knipser, or Graf von Neipperg don't send a chill down a wine lover's back, they ought to. The products of these wine-makers and many other high-quality German wines from regions such as Baden, Pflaz, Franken, Rheingau, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, are available at Ginza Winax. Herr Saion Edo and his wife, Frau Hoshino, are probably Japan's greatest German wine experts and their charming shop which imports only German wines is unique to Tokyo (and Japan).

They are very friendly and will let you taste several types of wine before you buy. Hoshino-san's love of German wine is infectious as you listen to her explain the merits of a particular bottle. She and her husband, who is also a renowned photographer, travel every other month or so to Germany to hand pick their excellent wines. Their bottles are then shipped to Japan in special temperature and humidity-controlled containers.

As Hugh Johnson says, "German wines should be enjoying a worldwide boom - Pure, penetrating flavours and low-to-moderate alcohol should be ideal for modern tastes. Instead, Germany has everyone confused." Winax will clear up any misunderstandings. One sip and you will be converted. Wine tastings are offered regularly, including an occasional wine/sushi-paired tasting.
